Splitting the campaign
Something cool is going to happen this week to my Dark Ages campaign - a second group is about to explore the sandbox. Thanks to some guys from RPG Diehard and the CodCon game I ran, a brand new second group will be adventuring in the Darkwoods and Dalewoods.

Ben of ars ludi spoke about playing with more than one group in his West Marches campaign and I've long wanted to see how this works. Some of the players in my first game have expressed some reservation, so we'll see how it goes.

I think "coopetition" (look it up on wikipedia or watch Darryl Waltrip during a NASCAR telecast to get your definition...) will be very interesting. On one hand, you'll have two groups looking for treasure and extending the map that is currently carved into the wall at the Mug & Pot - a bit of competition to kill things and take their stuff. On the other hand, cooperation may lead to larger rewards and greater things. I'm really curious to see how it starts to unfold - I have no horse in this race save that the players have a good experience at my game.

Battletech + Event Horizon + 28 Days Later + Imaaaaaaagination = the Awesome!

My writing bug is biting me these days, and it's because I had an amazingly dark and nasty dream. It started with me in a jump capable 'mech, part of a pirate merc team, latching onto the side of a dark, abandoned jump ship with old, obsolete spheroid type drop ships. Entering within, the jump ship "came alive" and started killing off my crew. We realized from logging into the computer that this ship had been someplace that we didn't want to go...

Escaping the jump ship in one of the abandoned old drop ships, we got back to our jump ship and continued on our contracted mission, to raid a Lyrian outpost. We were ready for battle, especially with the acquisition of this new drop ship. We burned in-system towards a planet, typical military prep - almost Alien2-ish in my dream. Except the Aerospace fighter cover reported no active EM, only passive... and bodies laying all around the cities and towns. Upon landing and establishing a beachhead, one of the Mech pilots got out of his machine, and was promptly ripped apart by the dead bodies that suddenly animated.

Yea, I gotta write this one out... this might be my short Battletech/Mechwarrior arc. Hope my merc buddies can get off-planet before the Steiners come rescue their outpost and blame us for the carnage...

Quick Start gets reviewed

Wow, I'm really humbled by the kind reviews: Tenkar's Tavern, Lord Kilgore, Stargazer. Thank you! I hope the Quick Start shares the joy that I feel every time I sit down with S&W - that's why I wrote it. I received my printed copy from lulu this weekend and it looks really nice, the heavier cover will help you carry this from game to game. Links to the Quick Start are on the left there.

BattleHorizonLater - Awesome layers of an awesome cake with cool icing. Those combined just gave me an image of a 'Mech bay on an abandoned dropship - 'Bennett's infected! He's going insane... and he's inside an Atlas!'

I wonder what other greatness you can create through combining titles? 'Aliens + Terminator + Wizard of Oz'. I'd pay to play that.

Should I be impressed or scared...

Similar thing happened to me re: strange dreams. It was the inspiration for my Savage Worlds setting, Apocalypticon. Similar premise as your, actually...sounds like Battletech zombies on the way.

Also, a review of the S&W QS rules will be up on Creative Anomalies some time this week...

My review was short and sweet, but that is what makes the S&W Quickstart so great... its short and so very sweet.

I'll probably be ordering a few hard copies for the semi annual gathering of my old face to face group. I handed out OSRIC on July 4th and S&W back in May. Hopefully the Quickstart will find immediate use this fall.

@Tenkar - thank you! If you're at GenCon, please come play in one of the games I'll be running :)

@Will - thank you! Please feel free to post a link here?

@Jonathan - Hehehe... I want to see the Mad Hatter's chest explode now...

@Andreas - Yes. :D

@JB - I know! Right?! (I've never played Cthulutech, but I really was tempted to bring a Shoggoth into story...)
